What is your favourite browser and why?
What is your favourite browser and why?
I use Firefox which is my favourite browser. Firefox is one of the leading internet browsers I have seen. I have used almost all of the other browsers, except chrome, and I have always been coming back to Firefox. It is very user friendly and provides a lot of user customization. Like a recent update, Firefox 3.6, you can change the theme of the browser to one of 3,000 different templates. Talk about customization! It is leading with speed as well. Probably the fastest one out there. Internet explorer is just a default browser and should be thrown to the side.

Welcome, kendricktamis!
My favorite browser is IE because it's the default and I'm too content to change it.
That, and Bill Gates is my secret boyfriend.

IE, kind of by lack of competition. Firefox jams our PC, Opera is a complete drag and Chrome... humm...

Arachne.
No, I kid. I use Firefox, of course. But if I ever get that FreeDOS rig I'm dreaming about I may.

Always had IE, but started using Firefox aswell to check if my site works properly on it. Over 20% of the visitors use it, so...

That is pretty low. FF has a larger market share than that. Percentage here is closer to 45% each month, which is closer to market share. There have even been a couple of months that it beat out IE.Rudy wrote:Always had IE, but started using Firefox aswell to check if my site works properly on it. Over 20% of the visitors use it, so...

IE is horrible and doesn't comply to web standards but rather instead has it's own standards. Most of the time it's because of bugs and improper CSS and such integration. It's a major pain designing a web site to support IE.

At one point I was doing the hack of browser detection to use a special CSS for IE users, but I no longer bother. Why cater to a browser that ignores the W3C standards. Look how long it took IE to support the alpha channel in PNGs. Make it W3C compliant and if browser has trouble with it, let them complain to their browser manufacturer. Besides, if you make it compliant, most of the basic functions should work, even IE. many webmasters are starting to take this approach. That is the point, maximum compatibility across all compliant browsers.MusicallyInspired wrote:IE is horrible and doesn't comply to web standards but rather instead has it's own standards. I like Firefox because of the security extentions it has available. Plus, I just liked a number of the built-in features it had a few years ago before the others caught up with it. Even though there are other browsers out there and many have the same features now, I just stuck with it.

Re: What is your favourite browser and why?
I have four browsers on my system: IE, Firefox, Opera and Chrome.
I use FF more than any of them simply due to its security feature and I know it well. Unfortunately, I usually need to use IE or Chrome when booking airline tickets. I've had FF screw up when doing that.
Opera comes close, but lacks decent cookie management and any feature resembling FF. On the upside, Opera can simulate the environment of other browsers. In other words, if you need to use IE for a particular website, you can have Opera "trick" that website into believing you're using IE.
I really, really like Chrome. It's streamlined and the fastest of all the browsers. FF can take a while to load (at least the first time its activated), but Chrome loads immediately. So far it's been completely compatible with every website, something that FF still can't fully claim. The main reason I've stayed away from Chrome was that it didn't have extensions like FF does; however, that's no longer the case. I have several extensions installed on Chrome, some of which act like NoScript, CookieSafe and others.
As for IE... well, I think we all know that browser.

Re: What is your favourite browser and why?
Firefox - for all of the reasons mentioned before. Sometimes Opera (when there's a need to simulate IE, so rather seldom), I stay away from Chrome - in my opinion it is collecting to many of my personal data (at least it was doing that about a year ago).
When I come to think about Opera, and why I'm not using it daily - the reason is... this browser is too sophisticated for me, and has a look, of... well, too high class browser for me .
