Moments in Sierra games that made you laugh out loud...!
(Yes, I know this is the exact obverse of the other thread I just started. I'm just taking a walk down Memory Lane, and getting distracted by Nostalgia Avenue and Things Used To Be Better Back In My Day Road).
Let's face it - Sierra's games are amusing. I don't mean just the adventure games, but generally (well, at least before Sierra got taken over by Havas, Vivendi, etc.) *makes a face* However, Sierra's games throughout the 80s and 90s, I feel, were just about second-to-none in the humour department. So what Sierra games made you laugh, hmm?
The Larry games are an obvious candidate here. (Of course, I'm not counting such abominations as the Larry Lovage games). The ad-libbing by Hans, Franz and Ivan is hilarious.
I know a lot of people think Punny Bones and Gnome Ann are annoying, but I thought they were rather cute (in a slightly annoying way). Same with Magnum Opus - of course he's annoying, he's designed to be annoying. (Even his name suggests that he's a pompous ass). But I thought, though he's annoying, he's also hysterical.
The voice acting in QfG4 is wonderful... really gives the characters personality. Same with the GK games. (Speaking of which, the narrator in GK1 is sometimes unexpectedly funny, even when she doesn't mean to be).
Space Quest is also hilarious, particularly the death messages in SQ1, 2 and 3 (although they're also obviously annoying!)
I don't know if anyone here played Sierra's card games/board games, peopled by characters from the Sierra games? This is going back a bit (something like the late 80s/early 90s)... you could play card games or board games with Larry, King Graham, Roger Wilco, Sonny Bonds et al., and they'd make wise-guy remarks (if they win or you're taking too long over your move) or ask for commiserations (if they lose). The games are definitely meant for kids, but I liked them.
Also - not sure if anyone ever played an old Sierra game called "Jones in the Fast Lane". If you haven't, it's a fun (and funny!) little game to play. Try it out - you might like it.
Anyway, I've been going on for far too long... what about you?

Yeah I've played Jones, when I made that screenshot for the game...
I was literally on the floor at the GK3 Clue reference, and there's that Tattoo section in GK1... In LSL7 I love Larry's acid dream... and his entry into the Captain's bedroom. In Phantas, Don's funny at the chase, particularly after Adrienne lurches out of the closet and impales him with the fireplace poker and Don says "I thought you loved me!". And the KQ7 man-eating plant: Hmmm... must've been a princess!, and the tombstones of course... Torin's attempt at singing... Oh! The snails at Freddy Pharkas! I love those!
In general when I discover something new in a game I've played a hundred times it tends to make me snicker, even if it's not hysterical in the first place.

Just about every LSL and SQ game made me laugh out loud at some point... there's simply way too many to name.

This list could go on forever.
Here: the one line that gets me EVERY time.
Narrator from SQ6: "If you're staying in here, Graham, I'm going out there!"
Made all the more funnier if one imagines the sound recorders trying to walk Gary Owens through on how to talk like an owl.
Also, just about every line by Toro in QFG5.

Space Quest 6.
Roger: "Hey, what the-....!"
Gary Owens: "While we await a fully formed thought from Roger, it should be noted that there is some kind of toxic gas filling the room."
Roger: "Hey! There's some kind of toxic gas filling the room!"
==
I don't remember the exact line, but Gary Owens says something about Roger being a pansy for jumping into Stellar's arms and injuring her back to which she says:
Stellar: "What was that, Roger? Did you hear something?"
Roger: "Pay no attention, Stellar. It's probably just...uh...mechanical flatulence from the ship!"
While I dislike Space Quest 6 the most, I think it truly is the funniest title in the whole series. SQ5 close behind.

Yeah, I like JitFL.Rath Darkblade wrote:Also - not sure if anyone ever played an old Sierra game called "Jones in the Fast Lane". If you haven't, it's a fun (and funny!) little game to play. Try it out - you might like it.
I didn't like it when I first played it because I had no clue how to manage money and time. Of course... I was 12 when I bought it in 1991. This apparent lack of money management also came into play with other games, like Strike Commander and X-Com: UFO Defense, both games that were released in the early 1990s.
Nowadays those games are a LOT easier. My brother said the same thing.

There were a number of things in QfG that struck me as funny, but I'll need to think a little more on those. Definitely a number in the Space Quest series as well.
I specifically remember being amused in SQ4 (I think) when you click the hand icon on yourself and it says "Hey! Keep your hands off yourself! This is a family game."

Also... I just remembered... the play on the "mad scientist" and "Igor" cliches in QfG4 have me in stitches. "Bad place! Very bad place! You'll be sorry!"

Listening to Graham fall off a cliff in King's Quest V was always hilarious to me.
In Space Quest VI when you look at the toilet in the jail and Owens says "It looks like a John" just after that there is about a paragraph long apology to everyone named John.

Heh. That reminds me of the various sounds Roger makes when he dies in Space Quest 1 VGA. Falling off the catwalk on the Arcade and melting by the acid drips in the underground caverns of Kerona.

Space Quest 4:
-Roger's reaction to walking into the force field in SQ1
-"You're not sure what it is, but you're sure it would look cool spewing through the propellers!"
-Roger trying to apply for a job at Monolith Burger while in drag.
Space Quest 6:
-Pretty much all of the lines already mentioned above, and then some.
Goblin's Quest 3:
-Blount's attempt to take the parachute on the ship in the beginning of the game.
-What happens if he uses the golf club on the golf ball in the same location (this and the previous item in this list really seem to drive home the point that doing the obvious usually doesn't work in adventure games).
-Any one of Wolfy's encounters with spiders -- he's a big, bad, rough and tough werewolf...yet he's still scared to death of spiders.
Woodruff and the Schnibble:
-Often, just the sound effects alone were enough to make me laugh.
-The onlooker yanking Woodruff's nose for no real reason.
-The tax collector and Woodruff's reactions to him.*
-Woodruff's attempts to free the Boozook trapped under the boulders.
-The Health Wiseman's not-so-healthy disposition after he is rescued ("Since my return from that hell, I have hallucinations and am slightly losing my mind...otherwise, I am okay."/"THERE! A MUTANT!").
-The "nice doggy" in Col Cott's apartment.
Accidentally falling off the path near Jerusalem in Conquests of Camelot. When this first happened I thought, "Oh crud, I've died again", but then Merlin says something like "No use cursing at ME, Arthur, it's your own clumsiness that's to blame", and then Arthur climbs back onto the path, still alive and kicking. I was both amused and relieved.
A lot of Rathbone's lines in The Lost Mind of Dr. Brain and a lot of Dr. Brain's lines in The Time Warp of Dr. Brain (like this one).
Playing against Arnoid the Annihilator in Hoyle 3. It's especially funny when he gets angry at you and you imagine his lines being read in Schwarzenegger's voice ("If you do dat again, I vil have to give you a thump.")
The sail incident from LSL7. There were a lot of little ha-ha moments in this game, but I thought this one was the funniest.
And Valanice's fleeting encounter with the werebear in KQ7. Hey, I was a lot younger (mentally) when I first played it.
*"And that tax on foot perspiration! Did you pay it?"

Yes. It had VGA graphics. You ever play Checkers with King Graham that was included with the King's Quest Collection? That's where it came from.

Re: Moments in Sierra games that made you laugh out loud...!
Too many to name! Just because I finished playing the GK series and that it’s still fresh in my mind.. Gabriel’s jokes toward Mosely always were hilarious. Two in GK2 that really made me laugh out loud were:
- when Gabriel asks Von Zell what he does for a livin’ and von Zell returns the question mockingly, What do you do, for a livin’.
- when Gabriel sees how long it takes for Kommissar Leber to blow his top. Especially when he says to Gabriel in his big, bellowing voice, “Zzit dohwn!"
