I got one that beats that (but is related)...

Even worse: "You're such a nice guy."

I'd recommend removing the lid before barfing, but maybe that's just me. :D

My tupperware drawer with mismatched lids proves this theory.

The saying is that there is a lid for every jar, not necessarily a jar for evry lid.

As a single person about the only comfort I found was in reading Anna Karenina. I mean, when people say, as the Dutch proverb goes: "There is a lid for every jar" it makes me barf.

I'm also particularly annoyed by unnecessary use of English in the Dutch language.
No, they're not. They're asking around. Trying to match. Square peg to square hole and all that crap. :P

Your mom tried to set you up with "ever woman that walked by?" :P

No, quite the opposite, she was scared of us turning that way. Doesn't make it any less embarrassing to hear "Isn't THAT a cute guy for you?" when a man who's ten years older and accompanied by a female who's obviously his girlfriend walks past.

That's when you turn it around and say, "Yeah, mom. Go tap that ass, if you want."

Was reminded of another one...

"Chillax."

Apparently combining "Chill" and "relax."

I don't like that one either, Tawm.

I used to like "you're doin' it wrong" but now it's getting worn out. Still funny sometimes but they're pushing it.

Here is another one (and its variations):

"You wanted to be like that, so don't complain about your situation"

or

"It was your free choice, so don't complain about the result"

or

"You chose to be on this situation, so don't complain about it"

or

"You are doing this by your own free will, so don't complain for doing this"

Aaargh!!

"Choice" does not equal free will. "Choice" is a combination of chance situations and free will. Sometimes people have to choose the lesser between two evils, or even make the wrong choice; and they should not be supposed to be happy for the less-than-perfect option they "chose".

*hands Rakeesh the EVIL! Robe and Staff of Necromancy for re-awakening this thread*

Phrases we hate? Where shall I begin?

"Smooth and creamy". AAAARGH!!! Anything nowadays that is in any way related to dairy products (or even not) is supposed to be "smooth and creamy" - milk, cream, cheese, chocolate, chocolate mousse, chocolate moose (;) to everyone who remembers this from The Muppets!), and even hair cream, shampoo, hair and some guy's... donkey... is referred to as "smooth and creamy". (No kidding, I heard that one on the train the other day). AAAARGH!!! FIND A F***ING NEW CLICHE FOR F***'S SAKE! *goes nuts*

"It will only get worse if you pick it". Well no it won't, if "it" is a fruit or a flower or a mushroom! :P People usually say that about a bruise or an itch you can't scratch. What ARE you supposed to do - just let it itch and hope it goes away? F*** that! You scratch like mad, right? 'Cause it itches. :P

"Good things come to those who wait". Yeah, or maybe just crappy things. No wait, DEFINITELY just crappy things. People who do nothing but wait for good things to come to them are just ASKING for f***ing trouble. Go out and FIND your own damn good things! Or MAKE 'em! Don't WAIT for 'em. You waiting for good things to happen to ya? Might as well just hang a "Kick me" sign on your back and be done with it, ferchrissake.

That's all I can think of for now - more later... ;)

I don't recall if it was already said or not, but this one always bugs me:

"I could care less"

which means you *DO* care... ugggg... so whenever I want to use the phrase, I say is properly: I couldn't care less

:)
