Whether main titles from MARVEL (X-Men, Avengers, Spider-Man) or DC (Teen Titans, Justice League, Superman, Batman, etc) or even INDIE Comics - how many people here actually read or collect comics of some kind - currently?

Anyone collect comics before?

I've never really gotten into many comics (although I have no idea why). I've read a few graphic novels that I've really enjoyed, such as The Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum, but I'd have to say that my favorite are probably the Scott Pilgrim ones.

Presuming that you are after all comics, I was somewhat of a comics fiend back in the day. All of them being from the Franco-Belgian school

Another favourite when I grew up a little was Yoko Tsuno http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoko_Tsuno one which I would still recommend to anyone.

I had a phase of reading some Marvel, X-Men mostly but it was a short phase due to the expense and limited availability.

While I used to like the super hero stuff when I was a kid, they have not held onto ma as an adult the way they have for some here. Ones that I do still appreciate are the likes of Carl Barks (which BBP and possibly Datadog will like, too) and Floyd Gottfredson. These two should appeal to adventure lovers. They created some fun, albeit outlandish "grand adventures". Their roots go back to the very beginnings of comics with the likes of Windsor McKay, the granddaddy of animation.

Yep. Marvel mostly. Now, the only thing around the house are Asterix, TinTin & my enduring favorite (though not strictly comics) are the works of Edward Gorey.

Back when I was a kid....many many many moons ago ... I used to read Batman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, The Flash, and a few others whose names I can't remember. I wish I still had them, they'd be worth something now.

I'm a huge Donald Duck fan. In 1995 I got a subscription to the Dutch Donald Duck magazine, which I still have. Donald Duck has existed since 1952 and I own many, very many magazines from before I joined, well over a thousand issues. Besides that I collect the Dutch issues of Carl Barks stories (always fun to compare translations). Back in the day I also collected the paperback issues and the double paperbacks. I quit collecting both (bad stories) but I have some 140 of them anyway.

Besides that I'm a huge fan of Gaston LaGaffe (for Dutchies: Guust Flater) and Lucky Luke and early Asterix, but my sister collects those.

Dabbert's artist Piet Wijn died last October, which saddened me greatly. It's a very Dutch comic, so it probably didn't get any translation, but the stories are very compelling and the art is amazing.

Franka is great.

I try to have all episodes of Jan Jans en de Kinderen. Gives a nice time index and I like the humor (especially in the older albums, but can't have it all)

BBP has just reinforced what Cracked.com has said about Disney characters and Europe. Honestly, I thought they were BSing, but I guess I was wrong!

The best part of that article is #6 on Page 1. Who can argue with "grilled corn-flavored Kit Kats?"

Anyway... back to the topic. I used to collect comic books, but that was back in the 90s when everyone started doing it, so the overall value of so-called "rare" comics dropped. I don't think the multiple covers helped, either. Who really wanted a shiny foil cover? I sure as hell didn't.

After a while, I started skipping the individual comics ($2.50 for one comic book? Are you out of your mind?!) and went right to graphic novels. Nowadays I don't buy them anymore and instead get them from the library. Sure, I can't keep them, but I get to read them for free this way. Seems like a good deal.

Donald Duck comics are the staple of many a childhood over here. Hell, many an adulthood even. =P

Same here, where the best-selling comic book is called "Topolino" (Italian for Mickey Mouse), a weekly collection of Disney adventures equally distributed between mice and ducks

When I was younger my Mom's best friend owned a comic book store. So I Collected every comic I could for many years (1989-1994). I have them all boxed up in a closet, probably about 3000 of them.

Im sure they aren't worth anything now, but maybe when im 50 I will see some worth. lol

Donald Duck is the most popular magazine among students, and middle-aged males. Even my beloved grandmother read it whenever she came to our house.
Donald even has his own magazine for grown-ups (that is, for men, with babe interviews and the latest car news). Initially they just made one magazine for a laugh, but it did so well it's being continued.

And here I am, talking about comics and totally forgetting Kamagurka. Kamagurka is a Belgian comedian who's delved into about any type of art you can imagine (right now he's primarily painting), but I've been a fan of his antics since I was twelve.



And I left out Fokke & Sukke, which I also collect.
