Favorite Sierra musical track

Post by Rakeesh »

So, we veteran adventurers have hd some musical melodies stuck in our ears for some... hours, until we managed to pass through a difficult puzzle, or simply because it was plain beautiful.

What is/are your favorite melody/ies from any Sierra game/s? Which of the QuestStudios files you have downloaded and overused?

My latest favorite, although not my style, is the rock piece in the Rocket Bar from SQ1 VGA.

My top:
  • QFG: Erana's Peace (one of the most favorite ever), Kobold's cave, Baron Spielburg screen
  • Camelot: almost the whole game :D
  • Longbow: Widow cottage screen
  • King's: Crystal Cave, Princess Cassima (from 5)
Larry:Lawyer office (from 3), pool screen (from 6), Xqwzts and nudist pool (from 7)
  • Space Quest: All fanfar-ish, Star-Trek-ish and Star-Wars-ish title screens :D

The Lost Opera of Wagner, from The Beast Within.

Or, really, every music piece from the three Gabriel Knight.

Now why did I expect that from you?

Much of this can be heard on the Sierra Soundtrack Collection. GK music can be heard on the extra disc of the Gabriel Knight Mysteries collection. Other soundtracks can be found here.

I love the ambient music from QfG5, like Silmarian night and day music, as well as the underwater music. That game probably has my favourite music.

I also love most the "Erana" music (that was part of what made her retreats so beautiful), but Erana's peace is especially lovely.

I really love a number of the GK themes as well. They really lent to the complex mood of the games.

Those are probably the ones that stick in my mind the most because QfG and GK are my favourite series and I've played them the most. However, I will also occasionally catch myself humming the theme from Monolith Burger in SQ3 or music from KQ4, since they stuck with me as earlier games in my graphical adventure experience.

I definitely agree with this.

Also, most of the music from QFGIV.

There are so many brilliant magical and enchanting pieces of music in Sierra's games I can't possibly pick one. Some notable mentions off the top of my head:

Dark Forest/Witch Themes (KQ5)
Pretty much everything from Conquests of Camelot
Thoreen's Theme (SQ4)
KQ1SCI's whole soundtrack
The Fens and the Hedge Maze themes (Longbow)

And pretty much all of everything is wonderfully available between Quest Studios and Sierra Music Central.

On a side note, Mark Seibert had this to say about The Magic Meadow in the liner notes of The Sierra Soundtrack Collection:
Mark Seibert wrote:Of all the music I've written for Sierra over the last few years, "The Magic Meadow" is the one I've received the most mail concerning. So with all of the requests for it, how could I leave if off. Besides, this is my dad's favorite and if it wasn't included on this recording, he'd probably write me out of the will.

For the complete soundtrack GK3 is outstanding. I fell in love with the game as soon as I heard the theme music, and at a certain point in the 2AM timeblock I just don't do anything so I can listen to the tune.
Other favourites:
Phantasmagoria: Consumite Furore
Complete Torin's Passage soundtrack. I love Michel Legrand!
LSL5: Des Rever Record, which I frequently played on my keyboard
LSL7: Main theme, and of course Get Along, Long John (the second library tune)
GK2: Opera
GK1: Main theme
KQ7: Land Beyond Dreams
KQ1: Greensleeves. I adore Greensleeves.
Sid & Al's Incredible Toons: besides Bach's Toccata in d minor BWV 565 (that also graces the Castle and the Island Of Dr Brain), and Mozart's 25th symphony, and Suppe's Light Cavalry, there's a great jazzy tune in it which I never could identify.
Shivers: Library theme and the elevator tune.
Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle Of Flesh: elevator tune and closing theme.
Gold Rush: Oh Suzanna
There's a new script around: PHANTASMAGORIA - A Puzzle Of Flesh! Check the Script Party topic in the Bard's Forum!

In other words... she loves the music! ;)

Astro Chicken! Never forget that time-honored tune! :D

I like pretty much all Sierra music... but some definite standouts:

1) Map theme, opening nightmare theme, and closing credits theme in GK1
2) Katrina's Castle theme in QFG4
3) Frinnica Map theme (all four variations) in QFG3
4) Title screen theme in QFG2
5) Wisp theme and Opening (Class selection) theme in QFG1
6) Castle of the Crown theme and druid theme in KQ6
7) Bandit camp theme in KQ5
8) Rendition of Greensleeves (played by Rosella on the harpsichord in the abandoned house) in KQ4

There are three that come to mind for me:

1. Erana's Peace: This is at the top by a long way. I worked out the notes for this on my keyboard and still to this day I can sit down and play it both hands from memory. It's awesome. The kids love it... everyone asks "What is that you are playing?". - My music teacher at the time was a BIG Sierra fan, so that helped fuel the interest in the game music.

2. SQ3 Intro Music: This is an old favourite and it still sticks in my mind, even though it was one of the first SCI games I played. I guess it left a big impression.

3. Camelot: It is hard to describe the exact tune but there is one particular tune that I'm thinking of and its in my mind right now. I could hum it but it isn't going to come across well in text. I have a feeling it is towards the end of the game but I can't be sure. It was a long, long time ago that I played it. Like Erana's Peace, this one is another tune that I used to play on the keyboard. - Anyway, I'm playing some of the old games with my daughter at the moment. Maybe we'll come across it at some point.

There is also a tune in PQ2 that is starting to slip into my mind just now...
