Sigh... *kicks virus*
Sigh... I'm exhausted. For the past 10 days or so, I've been suffering from a virus (or so my doctor says) that had just about stolen my voice (i.e. for a while I'd lost my voice, and was unable to find it, even at the Lost-and-Found). My doctor was unable to say what virus it was or what it was doing, but recommended rest and plenty of fluids.
I have my voice back now, but this virus is unwilling to let go. It generally manifests itself late at night (roughly 9:30pm onwards), making me cough (especially when I'm trying to sleep - though not once I've gotten to sleep); and also when I wake up, giving me horrible sore throats. =( About an hour after I wake up, and for the rest of the day, I feel fine - but when late evening rolls around... bleh.
Does anyone know what this thing is, or what I can do about it? I'm tired of being tired. =(

Re: Sigh... *kicks virus*
Your symptoms are too vague to really figure much out, unfortunately.
If it's a cold virus, all you can do is treat it. Go to your local pharmacy and grab some over-the-counter medication that has dextromethorphan hydrobromide (cough suppressant) and acetaminophen (pain killer).
I believe acetaminophen (aka Tylenol) is called paracetamol outside of the US, Canada, and Japan.
If you don't trust my suggestions (and you SHOULD question them, given that I'm not a physician), ask your doctor or a pharmacist about it. Chances are they'll direct you to the same medications.

Re: Sigh... *kicks virus*
Hmm... thanks for your help, DPX. Yes, I'm well aware of paracetamol as a pain killer - it's available here in various forms, mostly as headache medicine but also geared towards other kinds of pain.
The symptoms are vague because (initially) this virus refused to manifest itself as anything more than a stubborn sore throat that wouldn't go away, no matter what I did. After about a week, the sore throat only occurred in the late evenings, during the night, and early in the mornings. I never had any other symptoms - e.g. stuffed nose, headache etc. - that would suggest a cold.
A cough suppressant sounds like a very good idea - I'll get some tomorrow morning, seeing as it's late evening here and the pharmacies are shut.
*hugs BBP back* Thanks for the cute kitties and e-sympathy!

Dude, sounds like it's what I had. There was a day, that I literally thought it was the end - every breath I took felt like fire in my lungs. Sadly, if it's what I had - (and what made it's way around the office - yeah for working in a cubicle environment!) - there's nothing to do but wait it out. I was pretty much out of it, for almost 3 weeks.

Given that I've had asthma since I was three years-old, I know how that feels.Tawmis wrote:[...] every breath I took felt like fire in my lungs.

I had a friend who had asthma. Sadly, I am just out of shape and have that version of being breathless.

Huh. You don't happen to work in my office, do you? I agree, yay for cubicles. =<Tawmis wrote:Dude, sounds like it's what I had. I think that most of it has gone away by now. Yea! *waves a little flag and eats a filet of Robin's minstrels* >D

Re: Sigh... *kicks virus*
Irony being - I got hit with a real bad stomach virus on Monday night, that forced me to leave work early Weds, and I was out Thurs and Friday, and am just now barely being able to eat. (Last meal I ate was on Monday night!)Rath Darkblade wrote:Huh. You don't happen to work in my office, do you? I agree, yay for cubicles. =<Tawmis wrote:Dude, sounds like it's what I had. Yes. The worse of it was Weds Night/Thurs AM (like 2am) - I was in so much pain, and my body suddenly broke out into a massive sweat - like, sweat was just raining off my body! I actually collapsed and slept on the bathroom floor that entire night.Collector wrote:Oh, the puke your guts up diet.
