Rabies can (and still does) kill people all different ages. Unless you get injections after being bitten by an animal suspected of carrying rabies, the virus WILL kill you. Rabies is an interesting virus in that it has nearly a 100% fatality rate, which is higher than even Ebola Zaire, which had up to a 90% fatality rate.

I also agree that some people will hope they're safe after the first injection. Will even the second injection make people "safe"? How safe will that be? I'm curious.

They won't "hope" they're safe. That implies enough intelligence to think it over. No, I'm talking about the morons who, despite being told otherwise, will automatically think they're safe. Like I said, people don't listen to instructions or read instructions. It's how we get people who drink enemas instead of using them the correct way...

It's good to know that Canada is rallying behind the vaccinations. Australia is the same. For now, they're the best hope we have.

I think you misunderstood me. When I said "Canada is behind on vaccinations," I meant that Canada is behind on their vaccination schedule. In other words, Canada isn't getting the vaccines out to enough people.

Yes, you're absolutely right. I'm simply saying that before Pasteur developed the vaccine, there was no way to defend against rabies. If a rabid animal bit you, you would die - no ifs, no buts. Pasteur's vaccine gave people a chance.

Australia is behind also, because of the media stink caused by the blood clotting issue. I'm sure it's a serious issue, but I think it's been blown out of all proportion: 20 or 30 cases out of millions (even billions) of injections is a tiny risk.

It's also been shown that the people who had the blood clotting issue would have had it regardless of the Astra-Zeneca vaccine.

So the vaccine has nothing to do with it, and it's unfair of (some) media or (some) governments to blame it.

Yes, the floods have been in the news here for a week now. I'm fine -- the floods are far to the north of me (in other states completely), but things up there are scary. Roads washed away, fields turned into lakes, people in canoes rescuing farm animals ... yikes.

This should give you a taste of what's happening there -- images from 9 News.

There's no other word for it: it's a true disaster zone. The entire eastern coast of New South Wales, including Sydney and Canberra but also smaller towns, is swollen by flood waters -- which have now reached the southeastern coast of Queensland (up north from NSW).

I'm in southern Victoria, on the very southern tip of Australia. So I am all right for now. We're set to experience about 40mm of rain over the next 3 days, but compared to NSW and QLD, we are OK. (Also, Tasmania is due to receive 70mm of rain in just 24 hours tomorrow. Eek!)

Secondly -- wow. How rude to call me a 'cur'.

And finally ... obviously this guy ran a spell-check but paid no attention. Nor does he understand what the words mean. I didn't know I had donkeys, but I would love to play mini-golf with President Puttin' ...
