Nicely done. I don't think I was scared in this one as much as GK1, though. The violent deaths here were more grotesque than scary (especially that pit-and-the-pendulum death). That said, Gabriel's death scream gave me the horrors for quite a while.

I don't think it's wooden. Because under Gabriel's hand you can see the same pattern continue. I think it was a matter of limited color options, maybe.
(I can't understand why they'd color it the same as his hair, seems like a No-No in any painting class)

I just think it's supposed to be a bad couch (cloth) type design.
