I beta tested CoH before it was released, so I doubt it's even close to the same game I remember. That said, what's the difference between City of Heroes and Champions Online?

Maia and I've played CO (when it became F2P) and although we enjoyed it for a short period of time, it lost its appeal pretty quickly. It's free, so we've got nothing to lose by trying it, but I'd like to know if it's even worth the time to sign up and download in the first place.

I did beta too for CoH. If you remember your user name and password, if you remember, if you beta'ed CoH, you had that special speed boost power (where you glowed when activated). That all still works. I found the server with all my characters and found one of them was still level 1, so I started him; and they have made some great changes to some of the quests! It's pretty fun so far, I am now level 7 (just from when I posted the above to right now).

EDIT: I think CoH is miles better than Champions. I did Champions when it went free as well, thinking it'd be like CoH. I was greatly disappointed. The quests, the UI, all of it was inferior to CoH. But as you said, I played Champions for a bit, just because it was indeed free.

I knew at some point I must have posted about City of Heroes... So let me cast Necromancy on this thread and revive it. (I can't believe I haven't mentioned the news from Jan 2024...)

So long story short, City of Heroes ended up closing down (the MMO, as many have). However, some folks found the source code and got it up and running for free. Been doing so for a few years.

Well Jan 4, 2024 - NCSoft, the makers of City of Heroes, saw what these guys were doing and gave them an official license - meaning, they can never get a cease and desist order. For all intents and purposes, they're the official City of Heroes.

And it's all free. EVERYTHING is unlocked. No need for ingame purchases, expansions - everything is unlocked day 1.

If this toots your horn - join the game! (I am on the Everlasting server, myself)

That is cool that the publisher did that. I mean, they weren't profiting from it anymore, but most places won't let anyone else near their IP.

Yeah. I've been enjoying the game again. They allow you to have 1,000 character slots. Not. Even. Kidding.

I've already made like 16 characters. lol

Most of them between level 5 and 10. About three of them between 10 and 15. Two of them at 15+.

Max level, I believe is 50. :D
