Hmm... if they make a prequel, they should call it: Dragon Age: The Origins of the Origins.

Doing yet ANOTHER play through of Dragon Age - this time with a Mage...

Let me say - nothing - NOTHING can stand against a powerful Mage. The Blood Mage in Denerim that gave my Warrior SUCH A NIGHTMARE (and almost two days of trying to beat him) was dead in about 45 seconds.

I'm currently playing Emerald City Confidential and finding it quite charming. It has a very "old school" adventure feel to it and I like the "Oz Noir" setting. It's a nice change to play from my recent RPGs. :)

Even though the graphics are all hand drawn and meant for 800x600, they scaled up surprisingly well on my 22" monitor. They're not modern by any means, but they're better than most low-res adventures. The voice acting is good, even if the sound quality could be a touch better. The puzzles are easy and I haven't needed any help at all so far. It has a handy "quest" system to keep track of what you're supposed to be doing (not unlike RPGs).

I'm especially impressed with how they delved into the world of Oz and used characters from a number of the novels instead of just relying on the movies.

The only thing I really don't like about it is the save game system. Basically, there is none. If you quit, it reloads you at the beginning of the screen you were last in. So to "save" you have to go into a new screen. At least it warns you about this, though.

Emerald City Confidential is a wonderful adventure: it even won the 2009 Aggie Award for Best Setting :P

Dave Gilbert, the author, is a really good storyteller and writer, and his Blackwell series is even better than EMC. Over at Adventure Gamers, we awarded the series' last installment with the Aggie for Best Writing (Drama), and I personally wrote the award blurb ;)

I was wondering if the Blackwell series was any good. I may have to check them out after I finish this game. :)
