Sigh. The only thing I remember about The 7th Guest was not getting very far before I was attacked and killed by a zombie.

It might not have been a zombie. I don't remember what it was. I played it in the early 90s.

Yes, I'm old.

Zombie?

I don't even remember a zombie. I just remember the insane logical puzzles.

Nope, no zombies.

I only played the game recently when I got it from GOG. I though it was okay. Very much a product of it's time placing more emphasis on the FMV than on the actual puzzles. It looks like the remake will almost be a completely different game with new puzzles, unlike the Myst remakes which are the same game with better graphics.

Like I said, I don't remember if it was a zombie. I played it over 30 years ago. ;) But I remember being attacked and killed by somebody with a corporeal body, not a ghost.

I also remember how creepy it was. There was no music or sound, IIRC.

If it has new puzzles, that's OK. I presume the graphics and sound will also have changed (aka improved) in the 33 years since it came out.

There is definitely music.

I do not remember anything attacking. There is a "ghost"... but I don't recall him (Stevahar, or whatever his name is) ever attacking?

You can't die in 7th Guest, Rath. There's early on a woman in white who gave me a fit, aside from her and a bit at the end you aren't being interacted with and are just seeing the spectres - maybe you're confusing the title with Alone In The Dark or something else that's tapping into horror adventure.

It's fun to hear 7th Guest gets a remake, it is one of the games I never got to play well with DOSBox. Fortunately my old computers could play it as intended. I've also played the CD-i version which skips some of the puzzles, changed some animations and puzzle order here and there. Plus the microscope puzzle was doable instead of pure mayhem. Unfortunately it didn't have Skeletons in my Closet though.

There's a new script around: PHANTASMAGORIA - A Puzzle Of Flesh! Check the Script Party topic in the Bard's Forum!

Hmm ... it may have been "Alone in the Dark" that I played back then. After all, it's been a long time since the early 90s. ;) All I remember of it was that it said I would play a detective, and it was messy, and there were zombies.

In that case, I don't remember The 7th Guest. I shouldn't be surprised. I was barely a teenager when The 7th Guest came out, and "teenager" means limited funds. ;)

Definitely looks promising. I don't think I've ever seen a real from-the-ground-up remake of a game like this. It looks like they took the overall premise of the game and expanded on both the story of the puzzles. Most just seem to add a fresh coat of paint.

It reminds me of the Colossal Cave remake with the whole Lantern thing...

I've noticed several horror games of late, have been using a similar mechanic - use "X" to reveal things unseen by the naked eye.
