King's Quest 7 ... help? (Ooga Booga)

Post by Rath Darkblade »

So, I started playing KQ7 a few hours ago and made good progress. I'm already in chapter 4. Here are my first impressions:

1. The intro is VERY Disney-ish - swirl into the scene and a big song! ;) Rosella's appearance reminds me very much of Alice, in Alice in Wonderland.

2. The sound quality is good, but it's difficult to understand sometimes, especially some of the words in that song, and some of the things that "Chicken Little" character is saying. Agh! So high-pitched! My ears, my poor ears. <grin>

3. I like the troll kingdom in chapter 2, especially Mathilde (and the way she sits pouting after her argument with Malicia is adorable).

4. Chapter 3 is fine, but the names are very silly. The city of Fol-de-rol, the Grand Duke Fifi le Yip-Yap ... And, of course, the ending of the chapter. How's Valanice to get out of this?

5. And yes, the land of Ooga Booga. I assume Jane Jensen wrote this chapter...? It seems to be her style, softened somewhat by someone else (possibly Roberta).

Aaaand that's where I'm stuck. Sigh -- stuck in a scaaary Hallowe'en-ish land, with a really immature name. Probably named by those ghoul kids. (The first time I saw one of them climb up the spider's web, I thought it was Charlie Brown's evil twin).

In Ooga-Booga, I have already:

- ... given Dr Cadaver his spine back
- ... got a foot-in-a-box
- ... got a weird pet-in-a-box ...

... but what's next? :( I know those kids have the gravedigger's rat, but I've no clue where it is. *shrug* I also know that if I open Dr Cadaver's gate and then go to the Big Pumpkin, there is a kind of lift (bucket on a rope).

I'm guessing that those kids will probably show up with the rat at some point, otherwise the story just doesn't move forward. But they never do.

So how do I find that %&@*?%! rat? Spoilers welcome. :)

Have you tried using the lift yet?

Yes ... I took the lift up to the weird Giant Pumpkin. That's where I got the strange "foot-in-a-box", and also Dr Cadaver's spine. (That's how, when I gave it back to him, he gave me the pet-in-a-box).

I also tried using the lift again, but when I went up, nobody was there. *shrug* Where could they be?

Huzzah! :D I started KQ7 again, and found the answer. I simply had to talk to the gravedigger one more time (to hear about what made his rat so special) ... and then talk to him once more, to hear him moan about how he was running behind.

Then, when I went to the pumpkin, the kids were tossing the rat around, and I could trade them the pet-in-the-box for him, so I could give him back to the gravedigger and get his horn and shovel. Thanks! :)

Its a slow game. But some part i did think was ok... but i can understand why some might choose to skip it.
Considering older Kings Quest games gave you the option of walking faster.
