YouTube's new layout

Post by MusicallyInspired »

I hate it. I used to be able to view my subscriptions on the front page categorized by uploader. Now it's jumbled up by organizing solely by the latest video uploaded, which means all the uploaders are in a confusing mess. And there's no way to customize it. Also, they used to go horizontally across the screen and now they just list them one by one and you have to scroll ALLLLLL the way down to see them all. Horrible setup. I hear they were trying to copy a more TV-like format or something.

I think it sucks.

I completely agree. I hate the new layout. I'm surprised they thought people would like it.

Don't like it either. I can't see from the front page if I have comments, and it takes too many clicks to get to the inbox.

While I like the neatness of the new layout and the choice of colors, I agree that the navigation is somewhat more cumbersome than before.

Cool! Thanks a lot!
(bows to MI's superior hacking skills) Did you hear of the MI5? They were looking for hackers and used a complex code to encrypt the application form, you have to solve a cypher in order to link to the form. Unfortunately it could easily be found through Google.

Thank you so much, MI.

I thought this was one of those annoying things I would eventually get used to, but then a bunch of my subscriptions all uploaded at once and overwhelmed my front page. And being subscribed to several Let's-Players doesn't help. Usually I could just delete the videos I don't want to watch, but this new format doesn't give me that option anymore.

This new format looks like they're trying to encourage subscriptions, but the new way of presenting the actual uploads is enough to make me start unsubscribing from everyone.

They've discovered that the link I posted brings you to the old version so they fixed it. However, another user had the ingenuity to discover another link that takes you back to the old format.

http://www.youtube.com/index_ajax

It gives a strange authorization error at the top, but otherwise works fine.

You will be assimilated.

Thing is, they can easily track the traffic. Once they spot it (the more popular it gets), they will fix that too.

Really shows how much they care about what people want. "Hey, they discovered a way to get there old favorite layout back. We'll fix 'em!". Really makes me mad

Sort of like the new Gmail look. If you do not switch you get the nag message in the lower right corner. When people started to use AdBlock to block the CSS element, Google changed it so this trick no longer worked. Many dislike the new look, but Google is going to force it on everyone just like the have with YouTube.

I'm really not getting used to the new layout. It's frustrating on a daily basis. I've been able to adapt to all their other updates after a couple days, but this one's driving me crazy. I never navigate through the profile views - why would I want to do that on the front page?

The least they could do is let me delete videos from the front page that I don't want to watch. There's some channels I subscribe to like MondoMedia, The Onion and CollegeHumor where I only watch a small selection of their programs. Because of this new layout, now all their other crap is cluttering up the page.

I guess the layout doesn't really bother me because I rarely go to the YouTube home page. I often just look up whatever video I want using a Firefox add-on called Add To Search Bar or using Google itself.

Likewise, I don't have an issue with the new GMail look. I use Thunderbird to get my email, so I very rarely see the web interface.

I have only one real complaint about the new gmail look. No longer are you able to do a personal background, like you could before. I used to have Odin as my personal background within gmail.

That is the main reason that I have not switched, myself.
